It seems that the highly likeable Shadow Chancellor, Alan Johnson, has been suffering with the oldest problem that affects politicians - keeping the old trouser snake where it belongs. The Sunday Times was about to publish the story - hence the sudden resignation of this old wannabe rock and roll star.
So now Ed Balls has got one of the jobs he has always coveted.
Whereas Alan Johnson knew bugger all about economics (and was prepared to admit it) Ed Balls believes he knows everything there is to know about economics.
The problem is that he is from the old Gordon Brown school of tax and spend. Everything he says is - in reality - what Gordon would say. By giving Ed Balls the job, Ed Milliband is de facto giving the job to Gordon Brown.
And wasn't he the guy who got us to where we are today?

Slight change is indicated mr Lakes, well I can now throw a coin up into the air and when it lands heads or tails,we would still be in a bankrupt country with nobody with any knowledge in charge to get us out of the sh*t,we still have tribal politics, change no change,so what! you could say.
Um... er...
So what [unquote]
Ballsy boy has got the worst deal he didn't see coming; he's not that clever.
He's toast now as the label of his old boss's failure will be plastered all over him every time he opens his rather unpleasnt mouth!
He's the best bet to plunge Millipede's failed losers into oblivion for at least ten years, by which time he'll be the 'FD' of a small district council somewhere safe on a meagre pension and a blackberry.
Good riddance, he's already a loser!
HenryJ: At the last General Election, we had the choice of voting for the party we thought would make the least mess of the economy. Quite a choice!
rvi: yes - that was his response to the statement that we would become the most taxed state in Europe...so we know where he stands.
Scrobs: I think he will become Brown to Ed Miliband's Blair. He's redder than Ed and will be a persistent thorn in his side.
