One of the Lakelander's heroes

Apologies for the dearth of postings of late.

The day job has been somewhat 24/7 (as our friends on the other side of the herring pond would say.)

I'm very happy to say that negotiations have worked out well and I am hoping that my normal scurillous service will be resumed just in time for the General Election.

During the past few days, Dr Lakelander and I have been at our favourite Spring haunt, "The Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival."

Amongst the many excellent and thought-provoking speakers was one of my heroes. We don't agree that much on religion but, having had the great pleasure of meeting him several times, I would encourage everyone to listen to what he says on the subject of censorship.

BTW: if you look closely at the end of this film, Dr Lakelander and I are in the bottom 10% of the screen. Well, the backs of our heads are.....fame at last.....I've turned 50 and I'm not bald yet!

For reasons best know only to Youtube, it seems it's impossible to embed this video. I wonder why? Instead, please follow this link.

"Sums were never ma best subject"

"Sums were never ma best subject" admitted Gordon Brown, as he tried to explain why he lied through his teeth made an error about defence spending in his statement to the Iraq War Enquiry.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister has informed the press that, after a quick visit to a tattoo parlour, Gordon Brown feels much more confident that he won't make any more mistakes with adding up numbers again and is therefore the best man to lead Britain for the next 5 years.

Or is it 6?

N.B. This really is a photo of Gordon Brown's hands - urgh!

British Airways to be re-named

I used to fly on British Airways on business quite a lot. Thankfully, I don't have to any more.

British Airways is a company where the management and staff really deserve each other.

At a time when the low-cost carriers are able to make a profit out of running a cheap and cheerful service, British Airways continues to behave like a state-owned monopoly with scant regard for customer service or value for money.

If it disappeared, would anyone actually miss it?

Gordon visits our troops in Afghanistan

Gordon knew how much the troops appreciated his visit by the way they all smiled at him as he walked past.

Some were even clapping and laughing....

The Three Wise Dromeys

Do you remember the "Cash for Peerages" row that Labour managed to get swept away under the carpet?

This was when Lord Michael Levy didn't go round offering knighthoods and peerages to wealthy Labour supporters in return for donations loans to the party.

By making them loans, rather than donations, it meant that they didn't have to declare where the funding had come from and so any knighthood or peerage that was given to one of these donors lenders would be entirely coincidental.

Then there was the scandal involving illegal donations from Labour Party supporter David Abrahams.

The Labour Party Treasurer at the time all this was happening was Trade Unionist Jack Dromey, who is also known as Mr Harriet Harman. He never questioned where the multi-million pounds of loans had come from or whether David Abraham's donation was actually legal.

Or whether Mr Abraham's donation of £5k to Hattie's campaign for the Deputy Leadership was a good idea.

So, what payback does Jack get for never asking awkward questions, looking too closely at the books or listening to what everyone was saying about Lord Levy's loans?

Yes - the seat of Birmingham Erdington (majority 9,575) being vacated by Sion Simon at the next General Election.

Aren't the voters in Erdington lucky to be getting such a talented chap as Jack to represent his own their interests?
